Charter is a future of work media company founded by media executives and acquired by The San Francisco Standard in 2025. In support of our mission, we are seeking a Marketing Manager to lead marketing and audience development for Charter’s growing media and events business. The ideal candidate can balance creativity with building operational excellence and take ownership for this function within a small team. You will report to the Head of Growth and partner closely with the editorial, partnerships, and design teams.

What you’ll do

  • Own the Charter marketing strategy and execution, aligning with key stakeholders including Partnerships, Events and Subscriber leads to drive measurable growth in newsletter subscription and paid subscription conversion
  • Lead end-to-end marketing operations, from copywriting to internal reporting.
  • Manage marketing budget, to align with the goals of audience development and subscription growth, optimizing spend to lower cost-per-acquisition and increase subscriber lifetime value.
  • Oversee calendarization and coordination crossing competing products, to ensure a balanced and efficient schedule.
  • Drive event attendance and audience growth for Charter’s Summits and executive roundtables, building a pipeline of qualified attendees.
  • Establish and innovate on processes, tools, tactics for marketing, including ways we can continue to thoughtfully balance AI and automation with human-led creativity.

Who you are

  • Experienced marketer with 2-4 experience in growth, lifecycle, or demand generation marketing
  • Track record of success in B2B, media, SaaS, research, or subscription businesses
  • Prior ownership of email / CRM / lifecycle marketing
  • Passionate about supporting events, subscriptions, and content-driven funnels
  • Track record of utilizing data to evaluate performance and inform decisions making
  • Creative problem-solver with a low ego, high ambition approach.
  • Passionate about Charter and the Standard’s missions to transform local news and the world of work.
