The San Francisco Standard is seeking an experienced, innovative, ambitious and enthusiastic managing editor to oversee daily news coverage, multiple editorial departments and new initiatives that will expand our reach and deepen our connection with our audience in the Bay Area and beyond.
Our startup digital newsroom is at an exciting time of expansion, as our audience is growing rapidly and we have plans to branch out into new mediums and verticals in the coming months, with a focus on features, business news and opinion content.
This managing editor will oversee our daily news report and work closely with section editors and our visuals team, multimedia team, copy desk and other departments. We are looking for a deft, veteran editor who can make sure we shine on the news of the day while coaching section editors to deliver storytelling that drives conversation, delights our audience and results in real-world impact.
You must have impeccable news judgment and a commitment to the highest ethical standards. Our ideal candidate will also have the curiosity and imagination to suggest new approaches, tools or processes to help us make The Standard stand apart from the competition.
We are looking for a well-organized newsroom leader who has proven experience managing teams and using data to drive decisions, understanding how to align the newsroom with the company’s overall strategy and business goals. This role may require early morning, evening or weekend work. We are an in-person newsroom; this is not a remote role. We offer very competitive salaries and excellent benefits.
