About the Role:

Are you passionate about creating intuitive and engaging digital experiences? As an Intern Product Designer at The San Francisco Standard, you'll work closely with our product team to support the development of user-centric web and mobile front-end and back-end application based experiences. This internship offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in product design, contribute to impactful projects, and learn from experienced media professionals in a collaborative environment.

This role is in office in San Francisco, but remote in the US will be considered. This internship is paid $35/hour and is for a 12 week period.

What You’ll Do:

  • Manage a product feature redesign from start to finish with support from product design leadership and product management.

  • Assist in designing and prototyping interfaces for web and mobile platforms using Figma and other tools.

  • Help enhance design experiences across our platforms for Mobile, Web and Tablet use cases, leading design creation with a mobile first approach.

  • Support the creation and help with the process of refining design systems and component libraries for scaling content and reuse across front-end and back-end applications.

  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and senior designers to translate user needs into compelling design solutions.

  • Contribute to team brainstorming sessions and provide feedback on design concepts.

  • Assist in documenting and communicating design decisions clearly to cross-functional teams.

  • Participate in user research and usability testing to inform design decisions.

What You Have:

  • Have at least a Certificate or Bachelor Degree in Product Design, User Interface and User Experience, or a related field. Master-Degree started or about to start nice to have.

  • Advance understanding of Figma; familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.

  • A strong portfolio, deck, or sample work showcasing your passion and foundations in product design.

  • A strong sense of taste for visual aesthetics, including layout, typography, and color schemes.

  • Experience with and knowledge of using and implementing design systems, component libraries and related processes.

  • Experience in information architecture, effectively organizing and structuring content.

  • Experience with prototyping, wireframing, or user research.

  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to take direction, work collaboratively, and manage time effectively.

Preferred Qualifications (Optional):

  • Knowledge of front-end fundamentals (HTML, CSS) is a plus.

  • Passion for journalism, media, or storytelling.
